GEAR COMPANY'S PICNIC

Ideal' weather prevailed for tlie annual picnic of the Gear Meat Company's Potone employees, which was held tai Day's Bay on Wednesday. Upwards of 2000 persons attended the function, which was a hugo success. Mr. W. H. Milliard (managing director) and Mr. W. H. H. Tripe (secretary) were present, as well as of the heads of the various departments. A strong committee of 30 members, of which Mr. L. Parrant was chairman, Mr. A. White secretary, and Mr. G. Bowles treasurer, was responsible for tho success of tho gathering. Following are the results of the sports:— Boys' race (12 to 15) —Lockyer, 1: Edlin, 2. Girls' race (12 to 15) —Miss R. Tovey, 1; Miss Mi Tancred, 2. Single ladies' race—Miss Uren, 1; Miss Parsons, 2. Married ladies' race (employees' wives)— Mrs. Hart, 1; Mrs. D'Ath, 2. Married ladies' race (open) —Mrs. Hart, 1; Mrs. Nesbett, 2. Boys' race (15 to 18)—Dixon, 1; Glover, 2. Girls-' race (15 to 18) —Miss Wakefield, I. Boot jumblo race —Wilson, 1; Brewer, 2. Gymkana—Mrs. Hart. Single ladies' walk—Miss Smith, 1; Miss Tancred, 2. Married ladies' walk — Mrs. M'Grath, 1; Mrs. Smith, 2. Threelegged race—Smith and Townsend, I. Wheelbarrow race—Miss Smith, 1.
