AMERICAN AVIATORS AT FRONT

Seven American volunteer aviators took part in aerial reconnaissances in the battle of Champagile (writes the Paris correspondent of the -New York "Post"). Tliey are Lieut. William K. Thaw, of Pittsburgh: Sergt. Elliot C. Cowdin, of Now iorlt: Sergt. Norman I'rince, Boston; D. G. Massoii, San Francisco; llall, Bowling Green, Ey.: James J. Bach, New York, raid H. G. Gcrin. Five more American aviators are scouting and raiding on other parts of the French lino, and eleven are in training in an aviation school. These 23 men form tho Franco-American Flying Corps, which has opened an offic-e r.ncl club rooms on Hue de i'onthiou, Paris. Three of tho Americans—Lieut. Thaw and Sergt- Prince and Cowdin—have been cited in tho orders of the day. Sorgt. Cowdin was mentioned for having engaged two German aeroplanes. His French observer l disabled ori: machine by tiro, and tho other fled. , The American corps has two objects— to assist Franco and to givo American airmen experienoa in war, so as to lit them to serve as pilots for officers in .the American aerial'service should-the occasion arise. The French military administration is giving tho American v< 1unteers every opportunity to gain this experience.
