IMPORTANT GENERAL ORDER

CAMP & RECRUITS

The following general order has been issued by the . Commandant of the New Zealand Defence Forces (BrigadierGeneral Robin): —

"Frequent applications are being received for permanent commissions to tho New Zealand Staff Corps and for appointments to tho New Zealand Per. manent Staff.

"It is hereby notified for general information that 110 permanent appointments to the New Zealand Staff Corps or Permanent Staff rail be made until after the war. Appointments will then bo made from amongst those officers and non-commissioned officers who have Tendered good and efficient service,'and done well at the front and in New Zealand. ' Both classes will be given full and equal consideration when further permanent appointments aro being made.

"A-s tho present establishment is not sufficient to meet tho requirements of the. Defence Act, an increase in the various ranks to raise the establishment is at present under consideration, 'to meet. the domands for staff and instructors 1 at Headquarters, District Headquarters, groups, areas, and subareas. " ■ '

"Officers invalided ; to New Zealand from the Expeditionary Forco will be struck off the strength of the Expeditionary Force as from tho date of disembarkation in New Zealand.

"Should any of these officfers be again selected to return to the front with Reinforcements, : they' will resume their original seniority in-the Expeditionary Forco as far' as vacancies are available. ,

"Although struck off the strength of the Expeditionary Force abroad on date of disembarkation as above, they will still draw pay in New' Zealand as invalids until discharged. "Officers found fit for duty in Now Zealand will, if suitable, bo offered temporary appointments for the duration of tho war and period of demobilisation, thereafter to fill.shortages in New. Zealand-Staff Corps, and to relieve a certain number of the New Zealand Staff. Corps to be sent abroad in turn as such reliefs occur.

"Returned officers having the necessary qualifications and declared medically fit : for service in New Zealand will, be offered available appointments on the Camp and Training Staffs at Tre'ntham, Feat-herston, May Morn, 'etc. '

"The will' also apply to suitable non-commissioned officers for temporary appointments to the permanent staff as instructors,. quartermaster-ser-geants, or. to areas or sub-areas." SOLDIERS AND MINOR COMPLAINTS. New Zealand General Orders state:—. "It appears that cases are occurring in which_ men who have been discharged for minor reasons from the Expeditionary Forces and Reinforcements have been informed, upon applying for reenlistment, that they cannot be accepted. Where men are now fit and qualified, and have not been discharged for misconduct, but for a minor Teason which has since been removed, arrangements will be made for their re-enlist-ment and for, them to receive preference in being sent into camp." TAUHERENIKAU CAMP. The following officers have arrived in I Taulierenikau Camp, and arc posted as follows: —Lieut. Gillmorc to Headquarters Staff; " Lieut. J SOLDIERS' SOCIAL ROOM. ■ The ladies of'Greytown have opened a Soldiers' Social Room in Pryke's furniture shop, Main Street, Greytown, for the use of soldiers in camp. The room will be opened on Saturday, December : 4, and thereafter from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on'week days, and from 3 p.m. to 9 p.mi'pn Saturdays. TRENTHAM CAMP. Captain F. R. Ho top, N.Z.M.C., las reported at Trcntham for duty. Sergt.-Inst. F. Marshall has been appointed a temporary instructor on the' New Zealand Permanent Staff for the duration of tho war. Lce.-Corpl. C. E. Slianaghan has been temporarily appointed to_ be a corporal in the New Zealand Medical Corps. LATEST CITY RECRUITS. Tho following fit men were enrolled in Wellington yesterday: — L.
