'ANNUAL MEKTJXG.. The annual meeting of shareholders of the Wellington Publishing Company was held at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday Mr. C. Earle, , Chairman of Directors, presiding. • The directors' report showed that al- . "though , the war haa materially affected overseas advertising and had added largely to the cost of printing paper, the business of the company- had been well maintained, and the results of the year's working,must in;the circumstances be regarded as highly satisfactory.'- The extensive additions to the company's premises necessitated by the expansion of business were practically completed, and the large new five-reel printing press recently made -to the company's order in England had been installed. _ This_ machine, which is the largest of: its kind ever . imported to' Wellington, has the latest and most up-to-date'printing devices aiid equipment, and is required to cope with the large increase in the circulation of The " Dominion which has taken place in rel cent .years. 'It is capable turning out practically. twice as many copies /per hour as the printing press at present in use, . and .when, the paper is printed on'it,-which is expMted, to be' early in the New Year, will " earlier delivery to; subscribers than is . at. present possible. Sympathetic reference was made in ; the-report to the death of , the Hon. J. ■ Duthie, a-member 'ofj.the::'Board of 'Directors, and regret was also, expressed at the retirement of jtho Hon. C. J. ; Johnston, which was occasioned by his election as Speaker of the Legislative 'Council. The company's prospects were reported to be of a most satisfac- • tory nature. A dividend at the rato of 5 per cent, on the company's paid-up capital, as recommended by the directors, was agreed to. • ' ' \ The retiring directors, Sir Walter Buchanan, the Hon. J., (J. AV. Aitken, and Mr. G. F. were re-elect-ed. A motion placing on record the shareholders' sympathy with the family and relatives of the late Mr. Duthie, and expressing appreciation of the services of the Hon. C J. Johnston was carried on the motion of Mr. Cooinbe. The retiring auditors, Messrs. Hunt iand Menzies, were re-appointed. ; . On the motion of; Dr. Anson, a vote of thanks to the staff was carried, after complimentary references had been made to the _ excellent results of .the year's operations.
