WAR FUNDS CONTRIBUTION
1 £10,000 PROM BANK OF NEW ZEA- ; LAND. ' The Chairman of Directors of the ( Bank of New Zealand (Mr. Harold , .Beauchamp) announced at yesterday's meeting of the shareholders of the bank that in was proposed to make a donation of £10,000 to the National War Fund. Mr, Beauchamp, in referring to '• the matter, said:—"ln addition to the subscriptions it has already given to the various patriotic funds, the board has carefully debated the question of making a further substantial contribu- ' tion to the National War Fund for tho relief of wounded soldiers and their defendants. We have come to the conclusion that tlio bank should make some suoh contribution, but, before actually deciding to do so, we have though it fitting to refer to tho matter at. this meeting in. ordor to ascertain /whether our proposal is in harmony with your views. Tho amount we would propose is and, unless an adverse resolution is proposed at this ■meeting and commands substantial support from the proprietors, it is our intention to vote that amount as a dona- . tion to the National Fund, provided wo are satisfied as to the mannor in which the fund is to be administered. Assuming that no general. dissent is expressed, I think it sliould be clearly understood that, if the necessity exist, the bank will not hesitate to make a further contribution to the National Fund between this and the date of our next meeting—the amount of such further contribution to-be left in the discretion of the board." Dr. C. Prendergast Knight said that as he occupied the position of chairman of- the shareholders' committee, lie presumed it fell upon him to express bis entire approval, and he would do so by resolution. • He moved: "That the action of the board in proposing to give £10,000 to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund be approved;" , Mr. T. S. Weston seconded the motion, and it was carried unanimously. Mr. Beauchamp said that he was glad indeed that the proposal had mot with unanimous approval.
