WAR PENSIONS

BOARD'S •WORK FOR THE WEEK. The War Pensions Board .concluded, its weekly sitting yesterday. In all, 54 applications were dealt with, 20 from soldiers and 34 from dependents.. Nine soldiers were granted pensions averaging £60 per year each, 8 were granted allowances for various sums totalling £231, and three applications were adjourned. Thirty-three dependents were granted pensions totalling £1227, an average of about £37, and one application was declined. Fivo cases were reviewed, with the result that the aggregate annual amount of the pensions was increased by' £137 Following is a summary of the cases dealt with yesterday:— Soldiers. Private: Lost left eye; pension '£1 per week. Private: Lost first finger of left hand; pension of £20 a year. . Private: Suffering from general debiU ity; allowance of £1 per week for six months, case then to be reconsidered. Private: Suffering from neurasthenia, granted an allowance of £1 pel week for six months, under the saint conditions. Dependents. . Eight-mothers were granted pension! of 10s:. per -week. Mother: Husband 73 years of ag<> and ani invalid; pension of 15s. pel-; week. Mother: Son killed was her only son t and her husband left her some : years, ago; pension 15s. a week. • . Mother: Fifty years of age, left by her husband; pension 15s. a week. : Wife of a lieutenant-colonel: • There ara several children, but only one un. der 16 years of age. The widow haa an income of about £500 a year. A pension of £78 a year was granted. , • Wife of a private: Granted full pen-; . sion of £65, with £13 for one child Mother of a private: She has three children under 16 years of age, but her husband is living with her and. earning wages, though he is not regularly; employed.—Pension of 15s. a week granted. Mother of private: Widow, 65 years of ago; pension of 153. a week. • Sister: Pension of 10s. a week. Wife of sergeant: Full pension of £70, and £13 for one, child. Wife of private: Full pension of £65, and £26 for her two children.
