The Castlepoint County Council is considering the question of purchasing road-making machinery, and is approaching the War Fund executive in the matter of obtaining a loan. The Director of Camp and Barrack Construction (Colonel Riley) has agreed to contribute half the cost of the ejection of a social hal Tat the Tauherenikau Camp. One- of the stipulations, however, is that the. hall shall not be used ■ for religious services. This provision is objected to by the War Fund Executive, whidh asks that it be struck out. The work of duplicating the telephone wire between Masterton and Wellington will shortly be completed. As showing how the weather has hampered shearing operations in the Masterton district, it is pointed out that to date 3443 bales of wool have been received at the Masterton railway station, compared with 4352 bales at the same period last year. ! Mr. W. Howard Booth's horse Lonely has been, very successful in the show ring this year. It has competed at five shows, and has taken fifteen first prizes.
