Tho Premier of New South Wales re-' cent-ly submitted te the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth a suggestion by Mr. Dunn, M.L.A., that tho remaining members First Australian Division now at the front should bo allowed to return to Australia for Christmas. Mr. Hughes replied: "The proposal was brought to the notice of the Minister of Defence, who states that as tho members of tho Australian Imperial Force are, after embarkation, under the administration of the Imperial authorities, lie considers it advisable that tho question of granting such privileges should be left entirely to the discretion of those authorities. Any suggestion from the Commonwealth Government regarding the disposition of troopswould probably have tho effect of embarrassing tho War Office. It is thought probable, however, that all, or nearly all, of the members of the First Division havo been relieved, for a time at least, from continuous duty at OuUipeli, and thoiv places takou •v* r/jiafavcomeots, -
