Official.—General Townshend's 'division on November 22 captured Otesiphon, 18 miles from Bagdad, There were 2000 British casualties, (Rec. November 25, 8.5 p.m.) London) November 24. The Colonial Office reports that after a night march from Zeui-j • General Townsherid's division attacked a Turkish division at Otesephdn. After severe fighting, which lasted throughout. thfe day, the position was captured, and' 800 prisoners, with large quantities of arms and equipment, were captured General Townshend's force and general headquarters bivouacked on the oaptUred position. The Turks delivered heavy counterattacks during the niglit of November 23,. but were successfully repulsed. - Want t of water on November 24, however, necessitated our retirement to the river, three: or four miles below Otesephon.
