WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE. „ .The annual general meeting of the Wellington Stock Exchango was held at the Mchange yesterday afternoon. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the retiring officers were re-elected as fol-lowj-Ohairmau, Mr. A. T. Bate; vicechairman, Mr. Q. H. Irwin; members of <*>mmiitu», Mosere. E. Bucholz, N. H. Mauley, and W. 0. Stephens. Mr. B. C. Kcnnor was appointed auditor. CUSTOMS DUTIES. , Customs duties collected at the port of Wellington yesterday amounted to £1968 Is. 4d. SOOTH AFIUOA'S GOLD. The president of the Transvaal Chamber of Mines. Mr. W. H. Dawe, speaking at Johannesburg, drew attention to' the vital importance of South African gold to the cause of the Allies. The adjustment of ■the American exchange, said Mr. Dawe, wooid coyer ordinary commodities, but the large • orders for munitions placed by the Allies would not bo financed by American bankers, and would have to be paid for, to a. considerable extent, in gold. Gold payments, concluded Mr. Dawe, were possible by the fact that the British Empire produced 60 millions sterling of gold per annum, 30 of which represented the output of t.he Transvaal. DALGEIT AND CO., LTD. The New Zealand superintendent of Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., has received a cable messogo from London to the effect that the annual meeting of the company was held in London on November 18, when «.- dividend of 4s. per ehare was declared, being <vt the rate of 8 per cent, per annum, and making, with the interim dividend already declared and paid, 8 per cent, for tie year ended Juno 30. The dividend will be paid to shareholders on the colonial register on end after November 26- Provision to the extent of £40,000 w«ib mode for depreciation of premises, '£60,000 was transferred to reserve fund; £10,000 to beiDevolent fund, and £208,686 carried forward. LONDON WOOL SHEDS. In view of the hoavy arrivals of wool expected at London next season, the Port of London Authority has decided.to erect sheds at- the Royal Victoria and Albert Docks sufficient to accommodate 50,000 to 60,000 bales of wool.
