NAPIER WOOL SALE

RECORD PRICES FOE THE TOWN. Record prices were obtained at the first wool Eale of the season held in the Municipal Theatre. Naipier, on Saturday afternoon (says the "Hawke's Bay Herald"), although values did not come up to thoso of the recent Wellington ,6ale, This is largely due to the .activity of American buyers, wiilo French and Home buyers were also active. The sale was a highly satisfactory one from the point of view of the sellers, end justified all tho hopes whioh hod been based upon the hit'h prices obtained ait Wellington, Ohristchureh, and elsewhere. Top pricce wero paid by American buyers who intended pturcliaoing the particulaj- qualities of wool they sought. Colonial buyers were also present in. laTge numbers, on behalf of the Now Zealand factories.

There were about sixty buyers present, representing Britain, Japan, America, France, New Zealand and other countries.

The prices paid oh Saturday, compared with the corresponding sale of last year, were l}d- to 2d. per lb. higher for inferior, 4d. to sd. for medium, and sd. to 6d. for superior and fine crossbred. The demand for inferior orutchings was small, but rough, and fleece sold readily. The condition of the wool was better than that offered at last year's Eale. It was heavier in grease, but was free from the duet which was so noticeablo lost year. Here and there the fleece was a 1 little tender, but this is accounted for by the shortness of feed last autumn; generally speaking, the clip was of a superior quality.

In conversation with a "Herald" representative several buyers expressed the opinion that the clip was an excellent one. and that the rise in price, although fully justified, was not unexpected. "There is a fair rise over the figures for the corresponding salo of last year, and a big increase as compared with the earlier sales," efttd np». "The condition of tho wool is exceptionally good. I anticipated a very much inferior quality, owing to the drought that had been experienced in tho district, but it made a wonderful recovery."

Mr. Price, of the Wool Brokers' Association. nxorassed, the opinion that the fleece was one of the finest he had seen,' and he 'anticipated a 6harp rise, owing to Amerioan and Home activity. Some of tho 6taple from the plains was rather heavy in condition, but that from the hilly country was light, and of very superior quality. Generally speaking, the condition of the wool was excellent, and in his opinion much better than that offered at tho corresponding sale of last year. The following is a comparison of prices with those ruling at tho November sale last season.:— Nov., 1915. Nov., 1914. d. d. <1. d. Best halfbTed None off. NonooiT.
