By Telegraph—Press Association.Christchurch, November 23. It is feared that the severe frost experienced, on Sunday has done damage to the grain crops in the ear. The potato crops suffered more or less severely, and were considerably checked' in growth. The grain market is very quiet, and there is.no apparent demand for wheat; and oats, of which' there is little offering. ■ The old potato crop, is abbut - exhausted; and only a few lots are .being held by-growers. After three years of drought in the Tolago Bay district the ideal season' for 'daily farmers has come at last 1 , writes the correspondent of the Gisborne '"'Times." Ever since the Tolago Bay liutter factory opened and dairying was taken up in this district, the farmers have had to contend with dry seasons. In conversation with one_ of the local fanners and cream suppliers, the correspondent was informed that the present season, held quite a bright prospect for the dairy farmer. The output from the last year was i 7 tons of butter, but this year it was expected to reach..as -high as 70 to 75 tons, and considering that the price for butterfat was higher.' the ' "farmer could expect -to'; have a, really good season.' .There w;'as a plentiful-supply of feed for all stock, and this season should show what this district can really do in the dairying line'' under favourable . conditions..
