ROYAL LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING,

Mr, G. H. Neal presided over the monthly meeting of the Wellington Centre of the Royal Life-saving Society on Monday evening. The secretary reported that Mr. E. M. Bish was carrying out a most successful canvass of tho district adjacent to Cross Creek. Twenty members had been nominated for election and £3 collected in the space of a fortnight'. It was decided to warmly thank Mr. Bish for his efforts and to take steps to appoint persons in other districts who are wOling to undertake a similar canvass. The president of the Boys' Institute advised' tho Executive that in view of tho philanthropic nature of the institute work no concessions for passes to tho new bath could bo entertained for the hon. instructors of the centre, at any rate, in the meantime. Further action was deferred until aftor tho official opening of tho bath. Constable Andrew Dickson was awarded the society's proficiency certificate and bronze medallion, and the secretary was instructed to thank him for his offer to commence classes of instruction for members of the Police Force.

Thg-secretary reported that up to tho present clubs affiliated to the centre had forwarded £o towards tho Christmas Shilling Gift Fund. Fivo other clubs had yet to reply.

Suitablo notices advising tho general public that information regarding the objects of the society may be had by communication with P.O. Box 192, will bo placed in the various swimming baths and popular swimming resorts. The society's _ delegate on the N.Z.A.S.A. was instructed to press that the Education Board be approached to set asido a day in February next upon which to hold a schools championship swimming and life-saving meeting. Twenty-one new members were elected.
