CONDITIONS IN HAWKE' BAY
. ■ The Hawko's Bay district, especially tho lower end'' of it, presents a striking ' contrast just now- to its appearance of this time last year. Twelve months ago Hawko's Bay, with tho Eiiit Coast in general, was suffering in the tliroes of a particularly severe drought,' and stock ; could not get feed. 11l addition, doubt was expressed iu parts, whether the V- fruit orchards would survive the unusual s dry spell. At the prcsem, .time the countryside from:- Napier downwards is full of good ■ feed l , while the orchards aro doiug' well. The West Coast, which did not suffer to any extent last season, has been favbured by bounteous ' rain this month, and there is more'than ample grass growing. Of course the wet weather lias not been an altogether unmixed blessing, for "wet sheep" have \ prevented shearing in many localities..
