At an inquest concerning the death of the BraUns,; husband arid wife, a letter written by Braun was Tead. The letter bitterly complained of threats by other soldiers, after ,he had come out of hospital ; and during the voyage from Egypt, because it tfas alleged he was a German spy. This led to heavy drinking on his part—an attempt at suicide, arid temporary incarceration in an asylum.

The medical evidence was to the effect that Braun's mental trouble was duo;' to alcoholism. The verdict was that' Braun: cut his wife's throat and then his own.
