MAGISTRATE'S COURT
CIVIL BUSINESS. Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at the civil sittings of the Magistrate's Court yesterday and delivered reserved judgment in the case of W. H. Long and Coy., grain merchants, v. R. E. Sinclair, agent and broker, a, claim for £30 for alleged breach of contiact under which the defendant was to supply to the plaintiff company some ton tons of rice meal at a fixed price. The amount of damages claimed represented the difference between the contract price and the price at which rice meal was obtainable when tjie contract was alleged to have been broken. The Magistrate was of opinion that the evidence as to price was not definite enough and he gave judgment for the plaintiff company for the sum of £2 10s. (tho amount, paid into Court), with £1 13s. costs. At the bearing Mr. J. S. Barton appeared for _ tho plaintiff company, while Mr. T. Young appeared for the defendant. UNDEFENDED CLAIMS. Judgment by default was given for the plaintiffs in the following undefended claims:—Easson and Co. v. W. J. Thompson, £50 Bs. 9d., costs £3 155.; Vacuum Oil Co., Ltd., v. E. Matthews, £7, costs Bs.; Fulton and Co., v. H. W. Long, £9 165.. costs £1 3s. 6d.; ICirkcaklie and Stains, Ltd., v. Te Hen Heu Tukiuo, £6, costs £1 12s. 6d.; Veitch and Allan v. J. Savage, £4 12s 6d., costs 10s.; Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd. W Miss J. Nilsson, £6 Is. 9d., costs £1 3s. 6(1.; Inglis Bros. v. F, G. Warring, £2 6s. 2d , costs 10s.; Mrs. Mary Christie v. Mrs. Selina Torter, £2 Bs., costs ss. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. Waltor Launder was ordered to pay J. Woolf tho sum of 19s. 6d. by December 2, in default to undergo 24 hours' detention in the Wellington Gaol. Joseph E. Dalton was ordered to pay the sum of £120 Is. 6cl. to Hugh Campbell oif or before November 25, in default to undergo 30 days' detention in Gisborne Gaol. [ Edward Rossiter was ordered to pay
to Veitch and Allan the sum of £8 lis. Cd , by December 2, otherwise) to undergo seven days' detontion in Wellington Gaol. BREACH OF AWARD. The Inspector of Awards (H. E. Mostin) sued Walter Russell, dairyman, for two breaches of t'he Dairymen's Award, in that defendant employed two boys for'delivering milk before school. Judgment was given for £1 in each case. POLICE CASES. Police cases wero dealt with by Mr. D G. A. Cooper, S.M., who had before him eight persons charged with drunkenness. Six of these were first offenders. The other two were William Rice, who was fined 205., with the option of three days' imprisonment, and Henry Hachaw, who had to pay a fine of 10s., or go to ,gaol for 48 hours. JUVENILE COURT In the Jtivenilo Court, two children, seven and eight years of age, were sent to the Wellington Receiving Home because of the fact that they were not under proper parental control. Th'e father was ordered ,to pay 7s. 6d. per week for the maintenance of each child.
