ARAWA AND lONIC. , Cable advice has been received here stating that R.M.S. Arawa, which cleared Wellington on October 27 for London, continued her journey from Monte Video, on November 17. The Arawa is due at' her destination on December 0. The same company's R.M.S. lonic, which cleared. Wellington on September 17, and Sydney, September 25, via South Africa, arrived at London on November 17. THEMIS LEASES DURBAN. The Barber I line's' chartered steamer | Themis, en route for New York to Wellington, left Durban on November 10. She should reach port about December 11. "FLAT RATES.". . An Australian exchange' stales that an interesting point in the fixing of a flat rate has apparently been forgotten , m some quarters, aud that while the price has .been .fiade for steamers at 85s. per ton, the charter party in eorap instances may be 9?s. per ton and in otlicrs down to 755. per ton. The custom ia to pay freight, at the port of discharge. This payment, of course, is accepted by the representatives of the boat in terms of the charter party. If this is ■ 955., the shipper would, under present pay 10a. per ton above the flat rate, and if 755., 10s. per ton below the flat mte. From whom does he collect the amount overpaid, or to whom does he pay the amount underpaid? •MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. F. D. Smith, second officer of the ! Ebini, having come ashore, Mr. A. Captain Bates, who lias been relieving Captain Croft, of the Victoria, for a trip or so, .will leave by the Ulimaroa. for. Sydney to-day to take charge of the Wimmera, which is about to re-enter the New Zealand coastal' service. . •

Captain Ohamberlain,' who visited New .Zealand about twelve years ago as an apprentice on the barque Ashmore, is now in command of the Barber liner S'atsuma, which is loading general . cargo at Now York for Wellington. Captain Chamber, lain visited Wellington some months ago as master of the Buruga.
The Shaw-Savill liner Karamea will get away for Picton and Lyttelton on Sundav morning. After visiting the southern port- the Karamea will, return hore about November 25, and will leave for London on November 27.
Bound for Wellington, the ATahura' left Greymouth for Westport at 6 a.m. yesterday. She is eoheduled to leave the latter, port for Nelson at 6.30 a.m. torday, and is duo hero early to-morrow morning. Tho HuddartrParker . steamer Ulimaroa will arrive from Lyttelton this' morning. She will borth at the Queen's Wharf No. 1 south, and will be dispatched for Sydney at 5 p.m.
It will bo Monday next before the Eangatira will get away for Napier,. The liner Will procced thence to Wharigarei .to load meat before visiting Auckland for final departure for London, about December 1 or 2. From Waitangi (Chatham Islands) and Pitt lelatid tho Himitangi will bring a load, of wool and sheep back to Lyttelton. She should arrive at the southern port .on Thursday next, and will return immediately to tho Islands to load stock for New Zealand.
It was after 2 a.m. to-day before the Pateena arrived at this port from Nelson and Picton.
The Kim left for Westport and Greymouth last evening tb load for Lyttelton. The Corinna left port for Dunedin and tho Bluff last evening/ and is expected back here on Thursday next to load for' Neleon and New Plymouth.
Advice has been received by the head office of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company 6tating that the Pakeha left Liverpool on November 14 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers. She is due at the northern port oh January 1. and at Wellington about a 'week later.'
Towards tbe end of next month the C. and D. liner Tndraba.rah will load in New Zealand for Home. The vessel is at present bound from London to Adelaide, Melbourne. and Sydney. •
Latest advico received by southern papers Is to the effect that the Japanese steamer Tenerrin JMru has hcen fixed to leave Hokodate shortly for Lyttelton. .
The Flora was to have left Dunedin for Westport on Tuesday evening, but as the requisite number of firemen could, not bo cecurcd, tho vessel remained in the stream. Messrs. W. and G. TurnbtiU'and Co. advise that the Alexander will load cement at Terakoho for this port to-morrow.
To-morrow the New Zealand Shipping Company's Ruapohu will leave' Wellington for southern ports to continue dischage of her London cargo.
The Union Company's Haupiri, which has been sold'.to a British firm in South Africa, came off the Patent Slip to-dky. It is prohable that Teasel will get away ijjxt week.
