■ $ MONTHLY MEETING. • Messrs. C. Watson (chairman), W. S. LaTrobe, C. B. Morison, A. It. Atkinson, AY. Ferguson, Drs. Anson and Knight, Professors Adaiiison and Brown, and It. A. Wright were present at a meeting q£. the Victoria College Council held-last evening. The Finance Committer's report stated that on the matter of the allocation of the library grant, as reported'on by tho Professorial Board, the following recommendations liad been made:—(a) That it be laid down as essential that the library grant sohuld 1 be distributed by the Professorial Board; (b) that Professor Mackenzie be asked to submit a. list of books that he requires for. his work; (c) that it be suggested to tho Professorial Board that an endeavour be made to obtain tho co-operation of the Public- and General Assembly Libraries in the matter of fiction; (d) that any amount of the library vote unexpendod at the oni of a financial year bo carried forward, as supplementary to the following year's, grant. The. report also stated' that the letter from the Professorial Board recommending that the method of. tender be introduced for the supply of books and periodicals for the library, except in the case of law books The committed j recommended that the chairman of tho; council and the chairman of tho Professorial Board interveiw Mr. Baillie with regard to tho question. The committee recommended that Jackson and Co.'s tender for scraping and painting the iron fence along Kelburn Parade (viz., £19 10s.) be accepted. It was recommendod that arrangements for £hd carrying o nof the work .of Professor Marsden and Von Zedlite be left to the Finauco Committee to deal with. Account amounting to £1031 IG. Gd. were submitted for payment. The report was adopted. The financial 6tatoinent showed tho balanco of £2488 15s; Bd. at the P.O. Savings Bank (after the payment of the month's accounts); paid and received since last meeting, £2551 9s. ,
