SOME BIG SUBSCRIPTIONS. • . V By Tolesraph—Frees -Association. , ■ Hastings, November 17. A meeting of representatives of patriotic and kindred societies and subscribers from every centre in Hawke's Bay was held at Hastings this afternoon, the object being to decide upon a systematic, economical, and intelligent administration of the numerous patriotic relief funds that havo been instituted in Hawke's Bay. Mr. W. Morrison, chairman of the Wairarapa General Fund, addressed the mooting, explaining the system adopted at Masterton/ tho good working of which was proved by tho fact that subscriptions there totalled £7 per head of the population. He pointed out that local societies word essential, but no scheme could bo perfect without centralisation of funds, and the National Executive mesiing -had resolved that it is dosirable to establish a central executive for Hawke's Bay, and a conimitteo was set up for that purposo. The sum of £13,000 was promised at the meeting, the subscribers being; Mr. Paul Hunter £3,000 Mr. George Hunter 1,000 Nelson Bros 1,000 Mr. T. H. Lowry 5,000 Mr. G. N. Pharazyn 3,000 Mr. G. Pharazyn said he was suro that £200,000 could be collected in Hawke's Bay for ; -lio Wounded Soldiers'
