PATRIOTIC LAND RAFFLE

Mr. J. Lewis, secretary of the Wellington Patriotic Society, has received tlio following letter from Mr. John M'Master, the generous donor of tho 4000 shares in a Waikato land syndicate, which is being raffled by the Patriotic Society'in aid of the fund for our wounded soldiers and sailors:— "Dear'sir,—l have this day signed a deed agreeing to pay to Messrs.- J. P. Luktt and J. G. W. Aitken, as trustees for the Patriotic Society, the sum of £2000, on condition that tho sum is handed to the winnor of tho art union of the 4000 £1 shares (fully paid up) ia the Maraetai Land Company, Ltd., if tho winner would sooner receive the gum of £2000 than the shares. I am making this offer because I understand that tho public desire to know what the real value of the shares is. My own opinion is that the shares aro probably worth more than their face value, but in case I am wrong, and in order that the Wounded Soldiers' Fund may really benefit by my gift of tho shares for tho purpose of the art union, I make'tho straight-out offer to give tho winner tho option of keeping the shares or of receiving from me tho sum of £2000 in lieu thereof. I trust that when this is known the art union will be a groat success. —Yours faithfully (Signod).. John MiMasfcor," .
