The Hon. Dr. M'Nab will leave tonight for the South Island on his recruiting tour of Canterbury district. \ A Press Association message, from Auckland states that Captain J. A. Wallingford, who -was invalided to England from Gallipoli, suffering from strained heart, will arrive in the Dominion at the end of December. He is unable to return to the front, but will instruct the forces in machine-sun and musketry work. Mr. Win. Turnbull, of tho firm of Messrs. W. H. Turnbull and Co., land and estate agents, intends to leave for England shortly, with a view to taking up a'commission in the British Army. Mr. A. Levy, of Wellington, has received news that his son, 1 Mr. Louis Levy, senior house surgeon at the Royal Hull Infirmary, Hull, has been called to tho front. His destination is unknown. Mr. A. P. Drydcn, Chief Postmaster in Wellington, is at' present paying a holiday visit to Australia. His duties are being performed by Mr. R. D. Kelly. Mr. Albert H. Brigg, City Surveyor of Sydney, is at present on a visit to Wellington^ Mr. Bert Roylo, of Wellington, who suffered a scvoto attack of pneumonia three months ago, returned to Wellington from a trip to Fiji, and Honolulu yesterday. His health has been greatly improved by the rest and change of scene. i Mr. Joseph Snell, an old resident of Taradale, died in tho Napier Hospital on "Thursday, at the ago of 81 years. Ho leaves a daughter and two sons, (Mrs. Snell having predeceased her hus« band by some years.
Mr. L. F. Hursthouse, who left New Zealand ill April to offer Lis services fo/'tlie war, has, after training at Hendon, obtained liis certificate and been given a commission in tho Royal Flying Corps. Mr. W. Glenn, of Wangahui, who went to England some months ago to enlist in Kitcltaner's Army, lias been granted a commission in the Royal Field) Artillery. He has been stationed in a training camp near London. Nows has been 1 received in Wellington to the effect that Mr. F. 8. Ams« den, who was brought out from England somo years ago by Littlejohn and Co. as a specialist in scientific instruments, and who subsequently returned to the Old Country, has been appointed inspector of scientific instruments to the Government of .India, with headquarters at London. _ Mr. Ajnsden was known in musical ciroles in Wellington as- accompanist to the Royal Wellington Choral Society.
