CHURCHILL RESIGNS The news to-day from both the Russian and the Balkan theatres is bright and full of promise. As the result of the Anglo-French advance the.Bulgars on that part of the line have been thrown into .flight, with heavy losses; the French cavalry is clearing the ground, and the reoccupation of TJskub is expected. The Serbians are delaying the Teutonic advance at- other points, fighting desperately, and conducting their retirement with great skill. According to ah Athens newspaper, Lord Kitchener has arrived in Greece, and has boon received by King Constantine.' It is also rumoured that the British War Minister is the bearer of new proposals from tho Entente Powers. In the meantime tho German's are fighting desperately for a diplomatio ascendancy over the Entente's Ministers at Athens; another- report credits the Germans with conceiving a- plan for achieving a coup-do-main with another attack on Egypt. Rumania is still on the fence. Tho British have lost the submarine E2O in the Dardanelles; some of tho crew are "missing, and some are prisoners. The Turks also assert that we have lost a torpedo-boat. A desultory tronch warfare is being waged on Gallipoli. The Russians are forcing tho game on their northern front, and further'successes,and captures aie reported; according to various reports, the. enemy is facing a serious shortage of men, so much so that reinforcements which have been urgently asked for have been refused. Mr. Winston Churchill, who was First Lord of the Admiralty before the National Cabinet came into being, has resigned his seat in that Cabinet. An interesting statement is expected in the House of Commons when the ex-Minister rises in the Houso to-day to explain his-action.
