It is called "A Combination Protection," and the illustration we give shows how admirably it is adapted for the use of the soldier. It provides an essential and safe means of carrying a man's cherished letters, Testament, diary, money, fountain pen, notepaper, and writino 1 requisites. The protection consists of two tempered steel plates, thatVill divert and arrest missiles, resist a bayonet thrust, and is claimed to'deflect bullets and shrapnel splinters. Many lives have been saved in tho present war by bullet and shrapnel splinters being deflected from razors, tobacco tins, military buttons, and by, lodging in Testaments and wallets. It can be conceived then what a wonderful measure of protection is afforded by this combination protector. The weight is a negligible factor in comparison with the chief consideration of the device._ and feeling of security and usefulness which is afforded. The illustration shows now the double protectors are worn. The single "Hearty Protector" is used in exactly the same manner by at« tachment to tho shirt button and braces. Every soldier should have one, as military and medical men are loud in ,the praise of the device as a safeguard in the firing line.
