THE SHIRKER.

Sir, —Recently Dr. Newman was reported as saying in a speech that he knew a. man who had prevented • his son enlisting. In your'paper this morning Mr. R. S. Abraham makes a similar reference. I suggest that anyone who knows of peoplo acting in such a manner .should go a hit further and publish the names.- . Let Mr. Abraham publish the name of tho father with the four sons.

We don't want conscription. We want a "Vigilantes Society," who would take steps to ascertain the names of all those young men who ought to 'enlist, and who are not stopped by any solid; reason, such as had health or duty to near relatives. Lei it be known that the Vigilantes intended publishing those names. What a rush to enlist there would be. Besides, it would bo only fair to a lot of young fellows who really cannot go, but who now are probably being blamed and talked about. Anotiher duty fotr the "Vigilantes" "would be to find out the names of the big people who have made money by the war, but havo hardly given anything for patriotic purposes. Those names should also bo published; As a matter of fact, it is really tho Government of the country tihat should take the steps I have set out in this letter.—l am, etc., . VOLUNTEER.
