COLONIAL QUESTIONS

In the House of Commons, Mr. M'Kenna, Chancellor of tho Exchequer, stated that ho was unablo at present to legislate to relieve colonial incomes from the triple income tax. Mr. Runciman,, President of tho Board of Trade, in reply to a question, said he was. not awaro that the Swift Beef Company, which controlled tho Australian Meat Export Company, had not paid income tax. Mr. M'Kenna is seeking power to apply tho income tax excess profits tax on foreign companies. Mr. Bonar Law, Secretary of State for the Colonies, stated that the position of the Australian base metal industry at the end of tho war was under Government consideration. Mr. A. Fell, member for Yarmouth, asked would the opportunity be taken, of tho expected presence of the Dominion leaders to hold a conferenco to consider the danger of tho flooding of the Empire with cheap enemy goods at the c-nd of tho war.
