MASTERTON NOTES
Tlie Wamgawa freezing works will open for the season on Monday next. A car containing soldiers came to grief oil the Carterton Road on Wednesday evening. A tyre of the car collapsed, and the vehiclc was overturned. The soldiers escaped witli a shaking, but the driver sustained a fracture of the collar-bone. Twenty-six meu who have registered in the Masterton recruiting district during the last few days have been rejected as medically unfit. In connection with an appeal that is being made by the sporting community of Wellington for shilling subscriptions in aid of Christinas gifts for the soldiers at the front, it is pointed out tliat the Wairarapa lias already dispatched a thousand Christmas gifts. Foxglove is reported to be spreading in some parts of the Masterton County. The/Masterton Friendly' 'Socioties' Carnival Committee has decided to hold a.
