DETAILS OF THE AGREEMENT

In a circular issued by the Prime iMfaiister yesterday to factory owners and others interested, details of the plan undor which cheese is to he purchased for the Imperial authorities are set, forth as follow:— . . ' 1. In order that as little iuconvcnieuee as possible may be caused-, subject to the., conditions, contained herein, the present > business channels existing betweeii factories and their representatives' at the shipping ports will remain undisturbed. 2. The price feed by the Imperial Government is 7}d; per lb. free on board ocean steamer,'for first-grade full-cream factory cheese only., Sccond-grade chcese is not acceptable. ■ 3. The factories will continue to make .their own arrangements regarding shipping space to include the cheese requisitioned. . 4. The Director of the Dairy Prcduce Division of the Department of Agriculture'will advise the factories of the monthly instalments of cheese required, and issue the necessary branding- instructions. 5. iliach factory will forward to the Government- grader at the grading port three copies of specifications, in contaec'tion .with each instalment sent forward, care being exercised to see that tli9.se documents accompany the cheese. This is necessary in order that the grader may noto 011 these.' documents any cheeso whicli cannot be graded "first grade" before returning one to the. factory and forwarding the (t-lior twa to tho Dairy Association at the shipping port (seo clause 6) for attachment with .grade-note -to bills of lading. "6.. As is customary at present, the grader will forward the original gradenote to the factory. He will also forward a- copy attached to tho copies of specifications referred to in clause Nf>. 5 to the Dairy Association at the shipping, port. , 1 . _ 7. For the sake of convenience, the National Dairy Association will make ' out , bills of lading "at North Island shipping ports..' and the South Island Dairy/'Association at South Island ports'(cheese to be consigned to Officer Commanding "Reserve Supply Depot, Deptford, London), and will forward same (two .stamped and ono unstamped' copies) : with ,tho specifications , and grade-notes to the Officer in Charge, Imperial Government Supply Branch, ' B.'On receipt of. the documents mentioned in the preceding paragraph,' the Officer in Charge of the Imperial Government Supply Branch, Wellington, will draw up'credit notes for-each factory's' shipment, and forward a copy of same, accompanied by a cheque, pay.'i)le free of exchange, to the factory concerned,' or as the latter may direct. Every consignment " shall in .1. respect of fire and all 1 other loss or damage be. at the risk, of the Government fronf the time, of leaving tho factory, all duo care for the safety of the consignment until tho shipment thereof being .taken ,by the manufacturer. 10. All correspondence in'respect to delivery, branding, and grading to bo addressed to "The Director of the Dairy division, Department of Agriculture, Wellington," and ,that.-ii] ; respect to finance and matters connected therewith tc be addressed to "The Officer in Charge, - Imperial Government , Supply Branch, Room 61/ G.P.O.
