Y.M.C.A. ROSE DAYS
APPEAL FOR MOTOR-CAES. I In connection with the great Rose Day effort of the Y.M.C.A. beginning this morning, a few motor-cars are urgently required to enable the _ Stalls Committee to overtake the selling of Hovers in the suburbs. Owners willing to lend their cars for a few horn's to-day or to-morrow 3re asked to communicate with Mr. A. Varney, general secretary,, Y.M.C.A. _ A special appeal is also made for gifts of moss, lycopodium, birch, and maiden-hair fern for making up but-ton-holes and sprays. These should be handed in to-aay at the Y.M.C.A. Buildings, Willis Street. Donations of made-up buttonholes and sprays, pot plants, and vegetables will also be greatly appreciated by the committee. No fewer than 250 ladies will assist the Y.M.C.A. to-day and to-morrow. Twelve street stalls have/been arranged as follows: —Veitch and Allan's Corner, Miss Allan and helpers; Courtenay Place, Mrs. Rowntrec; Winder's Corner, Mrs. Fossette; Boulcott Street Comer, Sirs. Low; Mercer Street, Miss, Maxwell; Bank of New Zealand, Mrs. Von Haast; General Post Office, Mrs. Moorhouse; Bristol Corner, Mrs. Moor-, house; Woodward Street, Miss Isaacs; Government Buildings, Mrs. Chatfield; Lambton Station, Mrs. Bethune; Kel- . burn Car, Mrs. R. Pearson. The ladies of Johnsonville, with Mrs. Bethune ais oonvener, are arranging for a thorough canvass of Ngaio, Khandallah, and Johnsonville. A sale of cakes, scones, and sweets will be another Roso Day feature. This sale will be held'to-day and tomorrow at--Miss Maxwell's Tea Rooms, 89a Willis Street. Gifts of cakes and other dainties should bo sent to the Y.M.C.A. Rooms or to Miss Max- , well's.
In the eivent of the weather proving unpropitious, the street stalls will be transferred to the Town Hall, the use of which has been kindly granted to the Y.M.C.A. by" His Worship the Mayor. It is hoped that the public will visit, the Town Hall in large numbers, and give generous support to the Y.M.C.A. "Rose Day" effort to raise large, funds to provide comforts for our soldiers on active service and in hospitals.
The Y.M.C.A. suggests a good use for old silver and gold ornaments, sec-ond-hand jewellery, etc. Large numbers of such trinkets, which aTe lying idle, could bo put in the melting-pot and turned to excellent account on behalf of our soldiers abroad. A depot for the reception of these articles has been opened at the Y.M.C.A., and it is requested that silver umbrella, fittings, tops' of scpnt spravs, salt cellars, pepper boxes, trinket boxes, chains, bangles, be sent alone to help tho Y.M.C.A. military work.
A patriotic auction will be held in tho Y.M.C.A. rooms , next Tuesday cveniii" at tlio close of a lecture by ChaplainCaptain Sullivan on "An %c-\vitne.ss's Account of tho First Landinc; on Gallii>oli." Chaplain Sullivan \va.s in the first attack, and returned wounded.
