LUSITANIA MURDERS RECALLED
THE SINKING'OF JHE ANCONA DEFENCELESS LINER BRUTALLY ATTACKED By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, November 10. The Italian linor (which was reported yesterday as having been torpedoed in the Mediterranean) was the Ancona, bound from Naples to New York. She was torpedoed on November 7, off Cape Carbonara (the south-east extremity of tlie island of Sardinia). Rome newspapers declare that the submarine was e, German one, flying the Austrian flag. They denounce the aot as one of treachery, because Italy and Germany are_not at war. Several Americans were on board. Two hundred and seventy survivors, many of whom were wounded by shell-fire, have reached Tunis. A sensation has been caused in America similar to that following the sinking of the Lubitonia. TREMENDOUS EXCITEMNT IN ITALY. (Rec. November 11, 9.50 p.m.) Rome, November 10. Details from Ferryville staUe that the Ancona was sunk at one o'clock on Sunday. She was torpedoed after being fired on. One hundred and forty of the passengers and crew have arrived at Ferryville. Some who werewotmded have been taken to the hospital. Their arrival occasioned tremendous excitement. It is hoped that two other boats are heading for the same port. ' ■ The Ancona carried sixty of a crew and 422 passengers, including Prince Cassano and a famous painter Tlie Italian submarine and torpedo-boat flotilla is chasing the Austro-Ger-man submarines. RESCUE BCHTS FIRED ON. (Rec. November 11, 9.50 p.m.) Milan, November 10. An eye-witness of the affair states that the submarine fired on the rescue boats, killing women and children.
