KARORI BOROUGH

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The ordinary meeting of the Karori Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. B. G. H. Burn) presid cd.

A general discussion was raised on the amount contributed by Karori (£179) towards the Red Cross Fund, and Councill Skegg and others heartily congratulated the Mayor on the result, which testified to his efforts.. It was stated that the amount compared creditably, head for head of the population, with what had been d'one in any other part of the Dominion, and showed what could be achieved when an effort was made.

A copy of the Wellington and Karori Sanitation and Water Supply Empowering Act, as passed in tlio last session of' Parliament, was placed before the council. On the motion of Councillor Fair, a committee was set up to enter into negotiations with the City Council, with the idea of pushing on with' the scliemo, and .to arrange for statistics to be placed beifore the ratepayers. Tho committee was appointed as follows:— The Mayor and' Councillors Hamilton, Henderson, Skegg. and Fair. The action of the Mayor in granting the free use of the nail for Thursday for a Women's Natinoal Reserve meeting was endorsed.

The third of the series of lectures arranged by the Workers' Educational Association will be held tliis evening, when Mr. J. H. Humphreys, secretary of the Proportional Representation League, England, will lecture on the subject of Proportional Representation." His A\orslnp the Mayor will preside. A most interesting part of the evening will he the holding of a demonstration ballot which will thoroughly illustrate this new system of voting.
