THE WOOL SEASON

.. HIGH PRICES ANTICIPATED. Interviewed yesterday asto the prospects of the pending wool season, a leading authority in Wellington stated that tho season promised to be the best New Zealand had ever experienced. Buyers were now here from all • parts of the world, with the exception of enemy countries, in view of the opening sales, which were _t-o take place in Christohurch-to-morrow and in "Wellington on November 17. American buyers were here in good numbers, and owing to. the lifting of the embargo on the export of crossbred wool to America it was thought that a good dea-1 of wool would be sent .to that country this season. 'Some of the American buyers had already been operating privately, and some clips had changed, hands at prices in advance of any'realised last 6eason. Perhaps the growers who had sold were actine rather hastily in selling privately, for if buyers were able to pay so much the chances were that they would have to _ pay more at the local auction sales, -and it is quite.on tho cards that prices will exceed those which have been obtained by, private sale. The wool was coming in fairly frcolv, but the* broken weather of the past week had checked the influx. The wool was apparently in good condition. An endeavour wa» iiotv beings made to. arrange for vessels, to take the wool direct to America,, (both coasts), and it may be sMd that, owine to_ the facilities for ship•njnrr wool for America direct that the New Zealand market is likely to prove better the London market this season. • Thft quantity of wool to be sold ©t the Wellington sale on' November 17 will be iiofcvcft" 7000 and SOW bales. AH wool to be sold has Uo be in store in "Wellington by to-morrow.'
