TAUPIRI COAL COMPANY
ARBITRATION PROCEEDINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, November 8. Arbitration proceedings wero commenced this morning in conncction with the difference that has arisen between tho Minos Department and the Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd., regarding an additional shaft at the Extended Mine, Taupiri. Notification from the Department was given to'tho company as the direct result of the subsidence which occurred at tho Extended Mine in July last, and of the explosion at Ralph's Mine in September oi' last year. Mr. Justice Cooper-acted as umpire, Mr. Maeassov, of the Crown Law Office, appeared for the Mines Department, and Mr. Skerrctt, K.C., with Mr. Tunks, for tire Taupiri Company. The proceedings show every sign of leing lengthy, comprehensive, and complicated. Plans are displayed for ' tho guidance of the arbitrators, and arrangements have been mado for evidence to be given by milling men, -geologists, and others. Mr. Justice Cooper intimated that the arbitrators desired to pay a.visit of inspection to the mine, and it was arranged that this should bo made after the inspecting engineer of the mines had given evidence.
