A WOUNDED OFFICER
♦ RETURN OF LIECT.-COLONEIi A. E. LOACH. Among the passengers to arrive from Sydney by the Manuka yesterday was Lieutenant-Colonel A. E. Loach, of Christchurch, who was disabled by a bullet wound in the kneo at Auzac on May 2 —seven days after the 'New Zealand Forces landed there. The wounded officer, who returns home on crutches, states that on Colonel Stewart being shot, in the landing, he was appointed to the command of the Canterbury Regiment, and held that position until ho "was shot. The bullet entered his left knee from behind, and played hayoo with the nerves and sinews on which the action of the limb depends. Ho was takon to London, and there was treated in the Tvimr Edward VII Hospital. To-dav his left foot is still paralysed, and cannot ho controlled, but' he has been advised that there is a. chance of the most important nerve joining up again, hut it will be a long business. Lieut.-Colonel I-cadi was met on tliß steamer by a number of his friends and relatives, who gave him a. very hearty wclcomo home.
