Jt— WEEK-END MATCHES. KARORI CLUB. Riflemen who journoyed to Trentham on Saturday suffered some disappointment ill not being able to carry out their arrangements owing to the camp authorities not being advised that the range' would bo required for use, tliis entailing much wasto of useful time. The Karori Club, which was to have commenced its opening match for the first series competition fired a practice match of ten shots at 600 yds. The southerly wind made the shooting very difficult. Rifleman Ching's score of 49 was exceptionally good under the conditions that prevailed. The Karori Club has suffered considerable depletion in its membership owing to the large proportion of its members now on active sorvice. Twenty-five active members of tho club are already with the Expeditionary Forces. The club members decided oil Saturday to send to each one of these members a Christmas box, comprising writing paper, envelopes, tobacco, and cigarettes, and other articles useful to a soldier on active service. A number of donations were received oil the range during the afternoon, and it is expected that the amount received will' be considerably supplemented by further donations. Those should be left with the secretary during this week, in order that the packages may be posted in time to reach their destination by Christmas. Tho old Navals Rifle Club fired' tjlieir . second match of the first series on their Miramar range on Saturday afternoon. There was. a moderate southerly breeze blowing, and the light at times was not too good for marksmen.' There are seven prizes allotted to the first series which have boen very kindly presented by the following:—Major A. S. Biss, Colonel John Duncan, Colonel C. Cooper, Captain E. D. Bell, Hon. C. J. Johnston, Mr. A. Moore, and Mr. W. Jtidd. The conditions for the day's shooting wore nine shots and sighter at eaoh 500 and 600 yards. The best score was made by' R. Next Saturday the club will fire the third match of its first, series, 9 shots and sighter, at each 300 and 500 yards. SUBURBS CLUB. Hie Suburbs Defence Rifle Club continued their trophy shooting on Saturday afternoon at their range, Broadway, Miramar. H., R. Hart was again in good form, his score for tho day being 98, over ranges. 600, 700, and 800 yards. The weather conditions on Saturday wero patchy. Next Saturday the club will continue their shooting for the championship series at ranges 500 and 600 yards, ten-shot match.
