COLLECTION BY SCHOOLS. The children of the Wellington, schools yesterday. celebrated "Guy Fawkes Day" by collecting for the Belgian Funds, and they entered into the spirit of tho object with great vim. Tha'oughout the day tho city and suburbs were infested by the youthful collectors garbed in. all manuer of quaint costumes, and eager solicitations for assistance were made to every passer-by. As the result of their etfort a substantial sum will be Taised, and the children will have the satisfaction of knowing that tho general public again sympathises with thorn for having foregone the enjoyment of their usual bonfires and fireworks displays in tho aid of a noble cause.

One of tlio most interesting efforts yesterday was that of tlio Brooklyn ScJiool, for a prooession of -100 students marched through tlie suburb's main street, marshalled by the teachers. Anotlier school that did well, was Clyde Quay, which lmd over £70 collected lip to midday. Tlio Wadesownt School, also, had ,£lO IBs, to their , credit for the day. The children of the Kilbirnie School put up an excellent performance by collecting a total of .£100;. This,-for a scliool of-400 pupils, is a capital record. Newtown School collected over and there were several boxes still to come in. Good business was dono in the Hutt Valley. The Petoue District High School collected over .£3O, Petono West, M 10s., and Hutt District High. School .£25 10s., and in each case all the collection, boxes had not come in when the above totals vyero inado up.

A tally of tho hoses returned by the' scholai-s of the three' Mount Cook Schools disclosed a total of Ji2(i, with some hoses still to come in. As was to he expected this sum. included a huge quantity 'of coppers, that here and there were larger coins, and even pound notes. Good work was done by a couple of motor-cars which, filled with, juvenile collectors, plied the City streets Tn tho afternoon.
