Palmerston N'., November 4. ';.'• There was heavy, rain last night and this .morning;'.but the attendance at tho Show is large. The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. AY. F. Massey) and the Mi* aster of Agriculture •■ (Hon. W. ■ D. S. Mac Donald) were present, and Mr. jMassey opened the-new' cattle pavilion' .which he said was the best South of the Line; and worthy of the Dominion and the Manawaiu district. ■■•''"

He secured four firsts,.and B. B. Zurcher secured two firsts.- The Alfa, Laval Cup was-won by S. R. Lancaster in the classes open to any pure breed not catered for in the catalogue. R. Heaton Rhodes showed several nice -stockj .and was awarded first and second prizes. FAT CATTLE. . The entries in the fat cattle classes, were small. P. A.".■; Gillies■■ obtained three firsts, E: Short One,', and : T. Saunders one. '■ '.•■'. THE SHEEP PRIZES. .-.'■;•;' .Lincoln. ;. in Linoolris, }V. Perry secured the ram 'championship and three firsts; Mr. J. D. Ormond won the ewe Championship and four firsts. Other firsts went to \Y. Rayner, J. W. Corupton, and Henry Gaisford. . .Romncy. AV. Perry practically swept~the board in the Romney classes, and won the
Short 100-Guinea Challenge Oup outright. The cup was first competed for in 1908, and the winners are: — 1908—Gray Bros. 1909-E. Short. 1910.— W. Perrv. 1911.— W. Perry. 1912.— E. Short." 1913— E. Short. 1914.— G. E. Allen. Leicester.
S. It. Lancaster had the field to himself in English Leicesters. He was awarded both championships and also firsts in almost all classes. Mrs. J. D; Ormond was the only exhibitor of Border Leicesters. She was awarded championship and firsts. . Shropsbire. G.. L. Marshall and W. Rayner showed Shropshires. ..Rayner won the ram championship and one other first, and Marshall the ewe championship and two other firsts. Southdown. Firsts for Southdowns in the wool went to . Richmond and Forme, Ellis Bros...and James Knight. Richmond and Fernie were the most successful, .rho champion ram was shown by Knight and the ewe championship by Richmond and Fernie. In shorn Southdowns, AV. Howard Booth, Ellis Bros., James Knight, and Richmond and Fernie scored one first each. ' W. F. Jacobs was first in the Romney fleece; wool competition. . FAT SHEEP. Akers Bros, won eight firsts and E. and A. Symes four firsts in fat sheep. The Akers and the Symes each secured one first in fat lambs. • RING EVENTS. The ring events were conducted on a slippery ■ turf, but'there was only one mishap, Mrs. Becker being thrown heavily when riding the horse of tho president,-Mr. E. Short, in one of tho jumping events. Mrs. Becker was severely.- shaken, but otherwise uninjured. . The ring competition results are:— : Lady's and Gentleman's Hacks as a Pair.—H.
