HUTT PARK

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE.

A. meeting of the Hutt Park Committee was held last evening, there being; present Mr. J. W. M'Ewan (chairman), and Messrs. Broqklebank, •urassel, Hobbs, Richer, and Hodgins. The Waitvetu Golf Club was granted permission to use the Park on'the same conditions as last year. In respect to the Wellington Trotting Club and the fencing of the Park, it was decided to amend Clause 8 to read: "Not to call upon the committee to make the boundary fences of the sasd reserve trespass-proof, the committee to clean and put in a thorough and sanitary order all buildings and conveniences, for the time being upon the said reserve, required to he used by the club, for the purpose of holding a public mooting, before the dav of holding such meeting-" It was suggested by the caretaker in Jus. report tliat the golf ' green in front of the plantation should bo removed, as playing there was a danger to the public. ' It wan decided to refer the report to the engineer (Mr.' A. Cowic), with instructions to act if necessary. The chairman stated that he had yijfltcd t'lio Park with the engineer, and inspected. the improvements effected by the trotting club. Mr. Cowio had oxpressed 'his entire satisfaction with the work genorally. and he (Mr. M'Ewan) thought that tlie club was keeping its part of the agreement well.

It war. resolved that the engineer be askod to look into the question of tho trotting club's expenditure on the grounds, and if it should be shown to liis satisfaction tbat the sum of £250 had been expended in improvements, the committee would hand over .the sum of ;650, according to agreement. It was resolved to instruct tho secretary to write to the Wellington Oity Council, calling attention to the fact that the agre6ment_ between the committee and council had not beon given legal effect to in respect to the Hutt Park Road, and that the committee may bo called upon, in order to conserve its own interests, to close, tho road.
