LEOTORE BY MR. HOGBEN, C.M.G. Mr. A. C. Gifford, M.A., presided at S meeting of the Astronomical section of the Philosophical Societ- last night when a lecture wae delivered by Mr. G. Hogben, C.M.G., the subject being "Tidal Movements of the Earth's Crust." The lecturer explained the recent advances which have been made in the study of this subject, actual proof of the movements having been obtained by observation. The address was listenesd to with keen interest and Mr. Hogben was afterwards accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
