PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
MEETING OF THE SOCTETV. The annual meeting of the Wellington Society for t : ho prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held .yesterday afternoon. Mr. .T. I'. Luke (vice-president) was in tlio chair, and there were somo lifteen members present. ■ The Mayor, in moving the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, ooncrntulated tlio society on its well-estab-lislied position, and on having dono so much useful work in caring for dumb animals and in the suppression of cruelty. lie paid a high tribute to the society's inspector, Captain J. Henry, who, he said, had carried out his duties with energy aiul ability. Mr. W. Watson seconded the motion, which was carried. Tlio election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, His Excellency the Earl of Liverpool; president, Mi Frank Meadowcroft: vice-prosklents.the Mavor (Mr. J. P. Luke), the Hon. J. G. \V. Aitkon, Messrs. J. llott, William AVatson, 11. H. Webb, and V. R. Meredith; committee, Mcsdames C. Cliristio, A. Fi. Kernot, C. H. Seville, Wakelin, Miss Richardson, the Rev. J. Reed Glasson. Messrs. M. Kilgour, T. Forsyth, and F, Seed; hnn. solicitors, Messrs. A. R. Atkinson, Barton, and Mazengarh, D. R. Hogganl, Luke and Kennedy, R. H. Webb,- T. Young; 'lion, auditor, I\i-. C. D. Morpeth. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to the Mayor for presiding, and to tho officers of tho society.
