EARLY CLOSING OP HOTEL BARS HOLMAN GOVERNMENT ATTACKED. By Telerraph—Pr«as AEeociatioD—Copyright Sydney, November 2. An indignation meeting in the Town Hall passed a resolution expressing strong indignation at the Government's proposal dealing with the liquor problem, and urging that nothing less than 6 o'clock closing would be effective, and failing that, demanding a referendum on tlio question. The Rev. Mr. Hoban, in tlio v course of a fiery speech, said: "I impeach tlio Government with being unpatriotic. I do not say they aro pro-German, but tho practical result of this legislation is pro-German." Ho bitterly attacked Mr. Holman's recent attitude. Tho meeting adopted a negativo resolution, moved by the Rev. Mr. Hammond, pledging each man not to voto for any politician who would not pledge himself to a referendum on the early closing of hotels. in tho State Assembly Mr. Holman (New South Wales Premier), in delivering his Budget, said that the revenue for the past year was £18,928,000. The estimated revenue for the current year .was £19,098,000; and the expenditure £18,828,033. He proposed to repay. £235,000 to the Public Works Account, loaving a. net surplus of £34,967. No new general taxation was proposed,- but bcokmakers and race tickets would ba taxed to the extent of £75,000; the motor tas, and the super tax on inccmes would be reimposed, yielding £358,000. Last year £11,040,000 was added to the public'debt, making a total of £127,735,000.
