The rainfall registered at Solway (Masterton) for the month of October was 2.10 inches, compared with 1.07 m. in the same month last year.' Tho aggregate for this year is 12.80 inches short of the average. There were 3SO enlistments in tho Wairarapa Military District during tho month of Octobov, compared with 128 during September. The recruiting campaign has, therefore, been very effective. Five building permits, of a value of ■£2335, were issued in Masterton during the month of October. The liberation, of trout fir from the Masterton fish hatcheries has now been almost completed for the season. There remain 100,000 fry to be liberated in the Wairarapa streams. Buyers from the south have been scouring the Wairarapa district of late.
