VOLUNTARY AID FROM P. AND T< STAFF. Members of the Post Office 6taff have volunteered to help tho Government with tho National Registration, scheme, not, only iii tho _ distribution of the cards, but also in the compilation of tho returns. In the statistical work they will be undor the direction of tho Government Statistician. This means that these cards will not bo handled by any persons other than regular officers of the public service, a circumstanco which should- ensure the secrecy promised to signatories of the cards. The members of the Post Office staff liavo undertaken to do .this work without any. remuneration whatsoever. "This is a very big service;" said the I'rimo Minister, referring to the subject yesterday. ''Ihero are probably about -100,000 of these forms to bo dealt with, and this very important assistance places the Government and tha country under a deep debt of gratitude to tho permanent staff of the Post and Telegraph Department, who have undertaken this work. It means that not only will the work be done quickly and thoroughly, hut practically free of cost to the State."
