With full humility, I acknowledge, with the German people, that thus far the Lord has helped us. May He continue to assist and' guide a people who, with its princes ana freo towns, hold together united and imperturbable, ready for all sacrifices through the dark days of severe affliction to the bright sunlight of peace, to new vigorous work, to the road deßtined by Divine providence."
