N.Z. HOSPITAL IN EGYPT

FOOD FOB. THE PATIENTS. Mr. A. Russell, formerly house steward at Christchurch Hospital, now stationed at tho New Zealand General Hospital, Pont de Koubbeh, Abassia, Cairo, writes to a friend near Christchurch as follows: — "Wo have taken charge of a very large hospital, formerly the Egyptian Army Hospttai. It is all New Zealand wounded wc have, and all the staff, doctors, nurses, and orderlies, are from Now Zealand. Wo have several of tho Christchurch Hospital nurses here, so, with Drs. Acland, Scott, and Wallis, and Sisters Harris, Livcsley, and Fanning, Baker, and myself, Christchurch Hospital is well represented. " Wo have closo on 800 wounded in just now. Tho other night wo got 241 in- at one time, and last night 31. When the boys get a bit well, wo 'Send them to Port Said to a Now Zealand convalescent camp, until they are fit t-o return to the front. Cases that are likely to take a long lime wo send to a New Zealand hospital in England. There are 'housands and thousands of soldiers training here, and everything is warlike in appearance. Red Cross motor ambulances (somo with lady drivers), horse and motor transports, and everything connected with ambulance work are to be seen about the streets all day long, and every other day we sec a regiment off to the Dardanelles. (Wc aro on the main street, so they all pass here.) The men aro happy, and sing on their way to the station, and those in hospital are also cheery and happy, and anxious to get back to tho firing-lino again. We use here daily 430 chickens, 3000 eggs, 400 loaves, 1601b. meat, and 1300 pints of milk, to say nothing of other tilings. Tho men are well look' ed after, and get plenty to smoke.
