TECHNICAL EDUCATION
MEETING OP THE BOARD. Mr. Geo- Frost (acting-chairman), Hon. J. .6. W. Aitken, Messrs. W. Allan and W. H. Field were present at aI meeting of the Technical Educatioa Board lield last evening. The financial statement showed that the receipts for the month totalled £3002 7s. Bd., and the expenditure £769 os. lid. The credit shown was £691 14s. 7d., as against a debit o£ £348 16s. at this time last year. The difference between the credit shown .and the actual receipts and expenditure set out is accounted for by tho board's debit at the bank. The capitation this year, Mr* La. Trobo explained, would, he thought, be less, as the school has certainly suffered by the war, and the approximate financial position, might not be quite so good as shown.
It was decided that the same method that 'was followed last year be adhered to _ this year in connection with tho prizes for students, viz., that certificates be presented instead of the usual prizes (valued at about £30), and that amount be donated to one of the patriotic, funds, as a donation from the stu« dents. .' On the motion of the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken it was decided that the Mayor be asked to distribute tie certificates this year. The board also decided, the usual exhibition of students' work be held in tho second week in December. Mr. La Trobe announced that the cookery class would hare a • lai'ge sale of work to be held in did of tha Wounded Soldiers' Fund. A communication was read from tha Education Department respecting the alterations made in the representation on the Technical School Board, consequent upon the addition of other contributing bodies, viz., the New Zealand Institute of Architects, and the New Zealand Academy, of Fine Arte) The Minister had fixed, the represents tion at one manager each for the. bodies mentioned. The letter also conveyed the information that the Education Board would for the future have additional managers, the City Council three managers, and the Industrial Associ&i tion one. *
The director announced that Mr. W, J. Thompson had been elected one of -the City Council's representatives, vice MA T. C. A. Hislop, now on active service; that the Industrial Association had appointed' Mr. Thos. Ballinger as its extra manager; the Academy of Fine Arts had elected Mr. Atkins, an<3 the Education Board Messrs. 0. Mr Luko and .6. L. Stewart.
