"Charley's Aunt" Club. The "Charley's Aunt"_ Social Club i gave another of their enjoyable entertainments in the club-room last evening. The programme opened' with an overture b.y tho club's orchestra, and Contributing to the first hall of the entertainment wero Miss I.ali Benbow, Mr. W. Rowel], and Miss Betty Purdom, who gavo recitations; Mr. C. L. Green, Miss Marsh, and Mr. J. Carr, whose songs were much appreciated, and Miss Betty I'urdom and Mr. Culford Bell, who' gavo a sketch, "A Bus Ride." The club's orchestra again contributed an overture in tlie opening of the second part of the programme. Mr. Culford Bell and Mr. O. Green were very successful in their recitations; Mr. L. Exton and Mr. Goudio contributed songs j and Mr. Norman Watson, a violin solo. Mr. Ernest Luks was the* accompanist of tho evening. Supper was handed round midway in the evenill" and a very pleasant entertainment was ended by the singing of "God Save the King."

Miss Una Carter, the Wellington Gns Company's expert ill cooking, gave her first demonstration of tiiis season in the company's rooms in Courtcnay Placo yesterday afternoon. There were about seveiifcy-iive onlookers, all of whom followed the exposition which was given by Miss Carter of preparing an ordinary dinner with considerable interest, the various points which she emphasised in regard to the management of the cook> ers being duly noted. At the close of the lecture the gathering was invited to inspect the company's new showrooms, with the different appliances for cooking, and also for a hot water service. Another demonstration will be given by Miss Carter next Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. Henry Wood, of Napier, who has been spending some weeks in Wellington, returns to Hawke's Bay on Saturday.

On account of having contracted rhoumatic fever, Miss N. Lankshear will bo unable to take part in "Elijah" tliis evening at the Royal Wellington Choral Society's performance in the Town Hall. The music in which she was concerned will bo omitted.

Farewell Presentations. As Mr. and -Mrs. Hilton Fowler aro about to leave tho district after many years' resideneo there, the residents of Kimbolton entertained them at a social on Holiday evening. There was a largo attendance, and general regret was expressed at the departure of Mr. Fowler «ml his family, and as tokens of tho esteem in. which tlicy are held presentations wore made to Mr. ami Mrs. Fowler hv M.r. R. Jf'Hetli on behalf of tho residents of tho district. During his many years' residence at Kimbolton Mr. Fowler has been associated with every movement having for its object tho advancement of tho district, and for several years ho has been chairman of tho Kiwitoa County Council. Ho lias also been, and still is, the district representative on the I'abner.slon North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. New Zealand Soldiers in England. Tho High Commissioner is making ,a systematic tour of all the hospitals and hollies whore Now Zcalanders are being treated, and last week ho visited King George's Hospital, as well as the Convalescent Hospital at Woodcote Park, Epsom (writes a London correspondent on September 10). Concerning tho latter, Mr. Mackenzie uaya: "I wanted to see what accommodation was available, and how our n on were getting on. _ They were scattered 'throughout tho different buildings, and so long as tho weather continues fine the conditions are all right, but tliero is very little provision matte for their comfort if bud weather comcs on. Some largo structures havo been" put up, and Lord Killanin, who takes si great interest in tho welfare of the men, said they wanted a good deal of help to furnish some of their buildings and n.ako them warm for the winter. The authorities have also agreed to allow a New Zealand doctor to be appointed. Up to now Surgeon-Captain Southey, of tho Australian contingent, has been very good to our men, and whenever help is wanted ho has given it. The present arrangement is to concentrate the New Zealand convalescents at Epsom, and from there they will go to Weymouth."

Mrs. Tringliam (Pigeon Bush) is paying a brief visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Boden, of Sydney Street, left yesterday on a -visit to Blenheim. Tho wedding took -place in St. Patrick's Churdli, Waipava, on Tuesday, of Miss Annie Coe, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Coe, Waipawa.to Mr. John Gilbert 13rothorto», Wailiiarino, Waipawa. The Rev. Father Bergin performed tlic ceremony, lho bride, who was given away by lier father, wore a gown of wliite charmeuse satin with overdress of ninon aJid lace, and a veil fastened with orango blossoms. Miss Monica Coe attended as bridesmaid, and wore a gown of pale rrreen glace silk veiled with lace and a pink silk liat with pink roses. Mr. J. Bretlierton was best man.

"I do not consider that Now Zealand has sent away nearly sufficient nurses," said Mrs. Norman Gurr at the meeting of the Women's Branch of the National Reserve held in l'ahuerston recently.
