"DO IT NOW!"
RECRUITING AT CARTERTON SHOW. (From our Special Reporter.) Carterton, October 27. The need for men for the front is behig brought prominently before the notice of the public at the Carterton Show. , A recruiting office is established in a tent on the ground, and placards pro-: claim that largo numbers, of men are needed, and urge all cligibles to "Do It Now." Not until quite recently was a recruiting office opened in Carterton, and late last week Dr. Newman ; M.P., and Mr. A. Jolly, both of Wellington, delivered recruiting speeches in the town. • The effect has been good, and now about thirty men havo been enrolled. It is" expected that a number will enlist on the show ground to-morrow. A. display is to bo made by troops from the camps. The show authorities understand that about 760 mounted men and abouti 250 infantry, accompanied by a camp band, are to parade oil the show grounds to-morrow (Thursday), mid the event is being keenly looked forward to. _
Tho recruiting office in Carterton is being conducted by two soldiers, who returned wounded from Gallipoli.
There lias been a good response at tho Masterton office lately, and_ it is expected that when _ the harvesting is over tho rosponsc right through tho Wairarapa will be considerably accelerated. One who is interested suggests that in tho dairying districts, the girls can help to release tho boys for active servico bv milking the cows, or tending the milking-machines. He urges that if tho girls of a few years ago could do the milking the girls of to-day should bo able to, and in the present circumstances willing to.
