"FEELING IS GOOD."

PROGRESS OF RECRUITING

PRIME MINISTER OPTIMISTIC

A brief statement of his opinions 011 tlio present progress of recruiting was given by tile Prime Minister to a Dominion reporter yesterday. "From correspondence which Ims readied me," said Mr. Massey, "1 have formed the impression that, speaking generally, the feeling with regard to recruiting throughout the country is good. The appeals that have been .made, t'he operation of the National Registration Act, and the good work being done by recruiting organisations, are bringing homo tlio seriousness of tho crisis to all those who are able to lake up arms, and 1 am informed that large numbers who a few months ago never dreamt that their services would be required are now making the necessary arrangements to enable them to enlist. My information is that a good many will come in after the Christmas holidays, and a still large number about tho end of February, when most/of tho shearing and harvesting will have been finished. Now that four-weekly drafts have been arranged for the facilities for getting into camp will bo very much bettor than in the past, and there need be no long waits after enlistment. 1 have sufficient confidence in the young men of the Dominion to beliove that they will do their duty, and that a large proportion of tiicin will follow the example of their comrades who are already in the fighting line, and who have made the name of New Zealand famous in every part of tho British Dominions."
