ANOTHER BLOW TO THE HUNS IN THE WEST
FRENCH SCORE IN CHAMPAGNE
STRONG SALMI CAPTURED
HELP FOR. SERBIA
GALLANT DEFENDERS URGED TO HOLD OUT
ALLIES SENDING LARGE FORCES
TERRIFIC BATTLES ON THE • ■ RUSSIAN FRONT
Fresh measures, it is stated, are being taken by the Allies to extricate Serbia from her perilous position, and large contingents of troops will be sent forward. From another quarter it is stated that the Serbian/Headquarters Staff lias been asked of the Franco-British Staffs to hold out for. another five when effective assistance will bo at hand. The Serbo-French troops operating against the Bulgarians have broken the flank of the enemy at ICrivolak, states a message from Athens, and the Bulgarians are falling back on Strumnitza. The news from Rumania discloses signs of a sharp conflict between the Government, and the pro-war-pro-Entente party. The Government declines to be hurried, and threatens severe disciplinary measures if disorders are provoked. There are no fresh developments in Greece. Lord Cromer, commenting on the Balkan puzzle,' observes that the Entente group should simply take the situation as it stands and act accordingly, for (he says) the utmost efforts of skilled diplomacy can avail nothing against an apparently pre-determined basis of action on the part of the Balkan States. The French in Champagne nave achieved an important success, carrying. a strong German salient of great value to the enemy's second line. Terrific fighting is reported from tlie Dvinsk front, and east of Illukst. '
