A Sports Meeting. The meeting called for last evening of the lady members and friends of the various sports clubs at Newtown for tile purpose of forming a committee to assist the Associated Amateur Sports in their Christmas effort for the soldiers at the Dardanelles, was held in the chess room of the Newtown Library. Mr. C. M. Luke occupied the chair. It was decided to distribute subscription sheets and organise parties to canvass the district. The chairman, Mr. Luke, nnd Mr. L. T. Watkins were appointed a deputation to wait upon the tennis clubs of the district to solicit t'ho help of the ladies in this matter. It was felt that the consciousness of the fact that they had helped to bring a little comfort and brightness into tho Christmas time of the soldiers who aro enduring unutterable hardships in assuring thqir safety would help to make their own Christmas a pleasanter one. 1
Madame Boeufvre and Miss Beatrice Day are staying in Featherston. Lady Norah, Noel, whose marriage to Captain Robert Bentinck took place in London recently (just a iveek after the announcement of their engagement), will be remembered in New Zealand as touring with the Sheffield Choir. She is the dsuighter of Lord Gainsborough. The Noels are descended from an old Roman Catholic family who founded an Augustinian priory in the reign of Henry 11.
Christmas gifts for the soldiers at the front still continue to arrive at the Town Hall,' and in addition to packing these and arranging for their transport the Mayoress and her committee are making the necessary arrangements for Christmas remembrance for the men at Samoa, who, although we do not hear so very much about them, are doing their share for King and country.

Applications may be made for .£5 or any multiple of <£5, and for a currency of 5, 10, 15, 20. or 25 years, at tho option of the subscriber. Subscribers who apply at a Postal Money-order Office niny lodge amounts by cheque or in cash. If cheques are forwarded exchange must be added where payable. In cases where application is posted direct to Wellington the lodgments must be first paid in to the "Public Acoount" at any branch of tho Bank of New Zealand, and tho banjc receipt must in such easo bo forwarded to Wellington-with tho application. Applications for sums not exceeding i£sooo must be accompanied by the total subscription or Bank receipt for the amount, and applications for sums in excess of <£5000 must be accompanied by a deposit of 10 per cent., balance payable on allotment. Debentures will be repayable at par at the Treasury, Wellington, or at any offico of the Bank of Now Zealand in tho Dominion on their due date. Banks and registered Sharobrokers will bo allowed a commission of ss. per .£IOO on allotments mode in respect of applications received from them direct, and wMch bear their 6tamp, and are forwarded to the Treasury or to the Post Offices under cover of the form provided. Covering forms are obtainable from the Post Offices. Holders of Government Debontur<s issued undor the New Zealand Loans Act and maturing on or before the Ist Deoember, 1916, will liave tho option of converting into 45 per cent. 1915 Debentures at' par if application is mado to the Treasury on or before the 30th November, 1915. The interest under the new debenture will take effect after the coupon for the then current half-year under the old debenture has been paid. POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK DEPOSITS. Persons wno now have money deposited in the Post Office Savings Bank may purchase U per cent. Debentures by means of transfer. They must apply on or before thj 6th November, 1915, to the Postmaster in charee at any Postal Monev Order Offico within the district in which their .Account is open in order that the requisite transfer luuy bo made. Interest at *![ per cent, under the new debentures will date from the 15th October, 1915. The forms of application and transfer may be obtained at the Post Offices. TO TRUSTEES. Trustees desiring to invest Trust moneys in the ii per cent. Government Debentures Loan may make special arrangements with the Treasury in regard to tho time and method of lodging the deposit or purchase money for the debentures.
